North Bay Cultural Plan

In 2011, during the North Bay Cultural Plan process, a listing of local arts, heritage and cultural resources was developed. This mapping process built a stronger base of information about North Bay’s rich and diverse cultural community. This helps to raise awareness of North Bay’s cultural offerings, supports municipal planning and assists cultural groups to connect with one another

Members of the Cultural Plan Advisory Committee met last week to begin the work of implementing the recommendations contained in the North Bay Cultural Plan Report.  The Cultural Plan Report was endorsed by City Council on October 31 2011. The members of the Advisory Committee are in the process of reviewing the Report’s recommendations, determining priorities and timelines and identifying partners to assist with the implementation of initiatives.

The Advisory Committee includes members of the Community and City staff. The group has been involved throughout the development of the plan over the course of the last year and will continue to work through the initial stages of the implementation. The next meeting is scheduled for early January 2012.

You are invited to become part of North Bay’s Cultural Map!

A key step in the development of a Cultural Plan for North Bay is completing a process of cultural mapping. Mapping is a systematic approach to identifying, recording and classifying a community’s cultural resources.  To date the mapping process has involved consolidating information from a range of existing sources including Statistics Canada, local Yellow Pages, and a series of local databases. So far this has yielded a total of more than 250 assets in the various categories illustrated in the diagram on the right margin of this page.

But we know we’ve only scratched the surface and now we need your help in adding to this initial information.  In particular, we know that there are many individual artists that are not yet part of the database. This database will be available for public information. If you are interested in being included in this database, go to the link below and add your information to our list.
